Website update

09/02/2010 06:53
3 days after making a post about things I need to update on my websites system, I've made 3 changes:
  1. Tags
  2. Individual Post Selection
  3. RSS feeds

Tags were surprisingly simple. I've done it by entering a string into the database that looks almost exactly like what's at the bottom of each post (minus the links). I've then made a function that produces URLs.
Individual Post selection was easy too. Just ask the DB for a specific post.
RSS feeds were a little harder, but still quite simple. I get a bunch of posts, enter RSS tags & insert content using a loop. Simple.

Who knew these things were so simple. I originally looked at them & thought "Shit. That's not easy." How wrong I was.

Site Progress

Currently there's been little progress on my website here, but I have made it possible to view individual posts. You are able to select a post's title & be sent to its own location, however, it still shows the same as the home page, this has now been fixed & will be put up once I've got some more things done & ironed-out.

Doing that might take some time because I've been in Bali for the past 3 weeks & when I got back I immediately picked up a job, so that will take some time. Hopefully not too long & I can return to building my portfolio site's software.

For those who care, the software that runs my site now (which is very primitive, I made it in a day) is called "UntitledCMS". Although it's currently just a blog software, I'm planning for it to be a full-blown CMS that I can confidently give to clients & know they'll be able to use it. It has a plugin engine, although without any hooks put in the system yet. The posting method on my current install is basically a title, body, & postdate. The body uses TinyMCE for WYSIWYG writting, but since TinyMCE is slow & quite large in filesize, I've replaced it with nicEdit.

There are still things in planning-coding-testing that are yet to come, namely comments & categories  (or tags, haven't decided) which will be put in at a later date. Until then, this'll have to do.

Now for my Bali trip; I got sunburnt on the second day because I fell asleep, but the angle that back rest was on, left shadow in the "crevasse" between my collarbone & neck-to-shoulder muscle, so I got a funny white patch. I went to a Safari park & saw a baby White Tiger who was on its first day of being on display. I got to pat it, then it licked me!

But all was not good in Bali-land.. I got bad food poisoning 6 days before I left. I lost about 7kg in about an hour & couldn't go to hospital because that was an hour away & I couldn't trust anything to stay in that long. So I got a doctor who gave me an injection in my ass & some tablets. I couldn't eat anything until the next day where I only managed half a piece of toast for the whole day. I gradually got better, but that ruined 5 days of my trip & I was left with my last day. Thankfully I left at midnight, so I was able to enjoy the full day.

So that's what's up.

Welcome back Matt-SD!

I've put together a patchwork website for now. It's made entirely of a script I built this morning because I was bored. Enjoy.
